about

Helen and Shawn recorded in Kansas City over a period of a few days in two different settings; in The Attic with cello and electronics and Farfisa Compact Duo organ, and acoustically in The Parlor with cello and harpsichord. While Side A rows well out into the still waters of drone, minimalist music, and long tones, Side B allows for the natural decay of the acoustic instruments they are playing, opening up the dialogue for patterns and swift sonic changes to take place into shorter etude sized pieces.

The two sides of this release offer vantage points into how music can distort our sense of time. An episodic adventure can take place in 3 minutes while a single gesture can last 20 minutes.

Side B also experiments with alternate tunings, where the harpsichord and cello are working in an historical temperament common to traditional harpsichord repertoire.
